Gregory Merle

Gregory Merle, often known professionally as Greg Merle, is an energy infrastructure executive, materials engineer, and project developer with more than 20 years of experience. 

His background spans power generation, energy infrastructure, engineered fuels, advanced recycling, resource recovery, industrial development, and environmental innovation. Throughout his career, he has led projects involving power generation, fuel technologies, industrial infrastructure, permitting, commercial development, and large-scale project execution across multiple sectors of the energy industry.

Gregory currently serves as President of Riverview Energy Corporation, where he leads the development of major energy infrastructure and industrial projects. He is also President of FlexOnyx, an advanced recycling platform focused on converting waste plastics and other difficult-to-recycle materials into valuable transportation fuels and petrochemical products. In addition, he serves as President of Convergen Energy, one of North America’s leading engineered fuel companies, where he supports the continued development of engineered fuel solutions for utilities, municipalities, universities, and industrial energy users.

He also serves as President of NianticVista Partners, where he focuses on strategic opportunities involving power generation, energy infrastructure, utility modernization, and industrial project development. Across these leadership roles, Gregory works at the intersection of technology, infrastructure, finance, and commercial development to advance practical solutions for meeting the world’s growing demand for reliable energy.

Gregory’s experience spans the technical, commercial, regulatory, and strategic aspects of complex industrial projects. His work has included project development, permitting strategy, technology evaluation, utility outreach, stakeholder engagement, business development, fundraising, government relations, commercial structuring, and infrastructure planning. He has collaborated with engineering firms, technology providers, utilities, investors, regulators, universities, and government agencies on projects involving power generation, advanced recycling, engineered fuels, and industrial infrastructure.

In addition to his executive leadership roles, Gregory serves as a Director and Advisor to Real Cycle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing public understanding of recycling, resource recovery, and practical environmental solutions. Through Real Cycle, he supports educational initiatives that promote science-based discussions around waste management, landfill diversion, circular economy strategies, and sustainable resource utilization.

Gregory also works closely with Comptoir Balland-Brugneaux (CBB), the international energy trading company that has supported the development of several of his energy and infrastructure initiatives. This collaboration brings together expertise in global fuel markets, international energy trade, and project development while strengthening connections between traditional energy systems and emerging infrastructure solutions.

From 2015 through 2022, Gregory served as a member of the National Coal Council, an advisory committee to the U.S. Department of Energy. During his tenure, he participated in discussions involving power generation, grid reliability, energy security, industrial competitiveness, and the future of North American energy infrastructure. His appointment reflected both his technical background and his experience developing practical energy solutions across multiple sectors.

Gregory earned a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. He also comes from a sixth-generation coal and energy family, providing a unique perspective that bridges traditional fuel markets with emerging technologies in power generation, resource recovery, engineered fuels, and industrial innovation.
